VE/COIL Institute
Curricular Framework
The Institute for Virtual Exchange and COIL Centers of Excellence follows a clinic-based curriculum that combines shared cohort learning with tailored role-specific and track-specific guidance. This framework provides a structured pathway for institutions to build capacity, pilot new modules, and scale sustainable VE/COIL practices.
Clinics
- Five sequenced clinics focus on strategic commitment, module design, sustainability, technology and pedagogy, and career readiness. Each clinic combines live sessions, asynchronous assignments, and resources to support real-time application.
Role-Based Learning
Faculty, administrators, and instructional designers each receive guidance aligned with their responsibilities in implementing VE/COIL.
Parallel Tracks
The Institute is guided by two participation tracks, which shape institutional commitments and learning pathways. Centers of Excellence deepen their practice, refine scale-up strategies, and mentor Emerging Leaders. Emerging Leaders build foundational capacity, pilot new modules, and develop early sustainability plans.
Mentoring & Peer Exchange
Structured opportunities for mentorship and collaboration extend learning beyond clinics, helping teams refine module designs, strengthen institutional buy-in, and develop long-term strategies.
Applied Outcomes
By the end of the Institute, every team produces concrete deliverables — from activity maps and module plans to institutional action strategies — and implements VE/COIL modules that expand global learning opportunities for students. These outcomes reflect the applied results of the Institute’s professional development process, ensuring that institutions advance their own goals while contributing to a shared network of innovation and excellence.
