Completing Your Application

Applications must contain the following materials, in the order indicated below:

  • Your Leadership Statement should address the following topics. Do not exceed 3 pages.

    Your Understanding of the Landscape of STEM Reform
    What do you see as the most significant challenges facing academic leaders engaged in the reform of undergraduate STEM education? Please provide a concise summary of the most persistent or vexing problem(s) currently standing in the way of meaningful, sustainable undergraduate STEM reform at your institution or within the broader higher education ecosystem.

    Your Awareness for Values-Driven Leadership
    What are your core leadership values? Describe how your personal values have shaped—or are shaping—the kind of leader you aspire to be, and how those values position you to contribute meaningfully to undergraduate STEM education reform and to the PKAL STEM Leadership Institute learning community.

    Your Clarity About Your Own Pressing Leadership Challenge
    What is the most immediate area of undergraduate STEM reform in which you seek to further develop your leadership capacity? Describe a current initiative, challenge, or area of concern that you want your leadership development to address. In your response, explain:

    • why this issue is particularly urgent for you at this moment, and

    • what you hope to gain from participating in the PKAL STEM Leadership Institute that will help you move this work forward.

     

  • Include your most recent CV (no more than 4 pages).

  • Include a Letter of Reference from a senior colleague that addresses your potential to benefit from the Institute and to, ultimately, lead undergraduate STEM reform efforts either on your campus or nationally.

  • Include an Institutional Letter of Commitment from a campus administrator in support of your efforts to participate in the PKAL STEM Leadership Institute.

Submitting Your Application

Applicants must submit all required materials through the SLI Leadership Application Portal

All application materials must be uploaded during a single submission session. You will not be able to save and return to your application. You are strongly encouraged to compile and finalize all application documents prior to initiating the application.

Each required document must be saved as a PDF and uploaded using the filename conventions listed below:

Applications are due by Wednesday, April 1, at 11:59 p.m. local time for the early application decision deadline and by Tuesday, May 12, at 11:59 p.m. local time for the regular application decision deadline.
