Bridging Divides: Internationalization at Home Amid Global Tensions

VE/COIL Webinar Series

October 30, 2024

This webinar was offered at 10:00 am ET to accommodate a global audience.

As complex geopolitical tensions and rising polarization shape global dynamics, the concept of internationalization is being continually reassessed. While globalism has undeniably fostered cross-border connections and expanded educational opportunities, it has also prompted important discussions about disparities and cultural sovereignty.

This webinar challenged conventional narratives of internationalization by exploring how Virtual Exchange (VE) and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) can provide a balanced approach to global learning. We examined how these tools can expand internationalization at home (IaH) while respecting local contexts and addressing the complexities of globalism.

Participants heard from institutions that have successfully integrated VE/COIL into their IaH strategies, navigating the fine line between global engagement and local integrity. Participants joined us for a thought-provoking discussion on how to create global classrooms that not only connect but also critically engage with the world.

Webinar Highlights:

  • Institutional Perspectives: Hear from institutions that are reimagining VE/COIL in response to global challenges.
  • Best Practices: Learn about innovative practices that respect both global and local dimensions.
  • Critical Approaches: Explore how to integrate VE/COIL into IaH initiatives with a critical understanding of globalism.
  • Interactive Discussions: Engage in breakout sessions to exchange strategies and ideas with peers.
