Leo Lo

Dean of the Libraries/Advisor to the provost for AI Literacy, University of Virginia

Leo Lo is the Dean of Libraries, Advisor to the Provost for AI Literacy, and Professor of Education at The University of Virginia. He previously served as Dean of the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences at the University of New Mexico, where he advanced AI literacy initiatives and positioned libraries as strategic partners in workforce development.
As President (2024-2025) of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), Leo established the ACRL AI Competencies Task Force, leading national efforts to develop AI competencies for library professionals. He has consulted, published, and presented widely on AI literacy, workforce upskilling, and higher education innovation.
Leo holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Library and Information Studies from Florida State University, an MFA in Screenwriting from Hollins University, and an MA in Survey Research from the University of Connecticut, along with a postgraduate diploma in AI for Business from Oxford University's Saïd Business School.
