Press Release

192 Teams from 176 Institutions Selected to Participate in AAC&U Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum

Washington, DC—The American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) announced today that 192 teams from 176 higher education institutions have been selected to participate in the Institute on AI, Pedagogy, and the Curriculum. This fully online institute helps departments, programs, colleges, and universities respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities artificial intelligence (AI) presents for courses, curricula, and higher education in general. The institute launches with a kickoff on September 11–12, 2025, and concludes with a closing capstone event on April 6–7, 2026. Participating teams will engage via virtual events, mentoring, and other interactions as they develop and implement AI action plans for their classrooms, curricula, and campuses.

“AAC&U has been offering team-based institutes on topics of urgency for higher education for nearly 40 years,” said C. Edward Watson, Vice President for Digital Innovation at AAC&U. “However, this year’s AI Institute has far exceeded previous institutes in both the number of applications received and the number of campuses selected to participate. Such broad engagement affirms higher education’s commitment to its social contract with students and reflects how rapidly institutions are responding to the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. I’m excited that AAC&U will be partnering with such a diverse range of colleges and universities as they prepare their campuses—and their students—for the new realities shaped by AI.”

The institute will host monthly meetings and webinars throughout the academic year, enabling teams to engage with participants from other campuses, discuss timely topics of interest, and share updates on the status of AI. Each campus team will be paired with a mentor from the institute’s faculty. In addition to offering their perspectives, faculty mentors connect teams with other faculty experts as needed. Asynchronous interactions among campus teams and with institute faculty will also be encouraged and supported through AAC&U’s new online institute platform.
